The Diablo® III Starter Edition and Guest Pass allow players to try a limited version of Diablo III.

How It Works

If you already have a Blizzard account, follow these instructions to set up your Starter Edition.

  1. Log in to the Blizzard Blizzard Battle.net desktop app.
  2. Select Diablo III and click Try for Free.
  3. Verify your age.
  4. Follow the prompts to install Diablo III.
  5. Once the game is installed, you can play the Starter Edition.

If you don't have a Blizzard account and you'd like to try the Diablo III Starter Edition, you'll need to create a Blizzard account first.

Limitations and Restrictions

Players on Starter Edition game licenses have the following restrictions:

  • Cannot progress past the Skeleton King.
  • Can only create up to 4 characters.
  • Level 13 cap.
  • Matchmaking available only with other Starter Edition players.

Any characters you create while using the Starter Edition will be retained when you upgrade to the full version of Diablo III.

Note: Each Blizzard account is limited to one Diablo III Starter Edition or one Diablo III Standard Edition.

Upgrading to the Full Version of Diablo III

Log in to Blizzard Account Management, and select your Diablo III Starter Edition on the Game Account list. On your Diablo III Starter Edition Game Management page, you will see your upgrade options on the right-hand side.

Note: Most Diablo III Starter Edition restrictions will remain in place until payment verification is fully complete. This may take up to 72 hours.
