Real ID can be enabled through Battl.net Account Privacy & Communication Settings. Enabling Real ID will allow you to share and see each other's real names, but no other personal information.
When players agree to become Battle.net friends, they’ll have access to the following features:
- Chat through the Desktop and Mobile Apps
- Cross-game chat
- Friends’ online status
- World of Warcraft cross-realm groups
- Friends of Friends Suggestions
Friends of FriendS suggestions
Right-click a Real ID friend and select View Friends to view their friend list. You can then click Add if you wish to send invites to mutual friends on their list to make them your friends. You can disable this option in Privacy Preferences if you don't want your name to appear in this list.
Note: Changes to this setting may take up to 24 hours to update.
Managing Real ID
Real ID friendships are voluntary and can be managed from within the Battle.net Desktop App.
With the Real ID feature enabled, you can choose to share your real name on a case-by-case basis when sending or accepting friend requests. If Real ID is disabled, all friend requests will only use your BattleTag.
If you no longer want another player to be your friend and to contact you through Battle.net friends, right click on the friend and select "Remove Friend". This will remove them from your friends list. You may also use Block, if you wish to not receive further invites from a Battle.net Friend in the future.
Note: If you accidentally Block a friend, you can unblock them by going to the Desktop App settings, clicking on "Friends & Chat, and then View Block List to remove them from that list.
Parents can enable or disable this service for their children using Parental Controls or through Account Management. If Real ID has been disabled, you can re-enable it on the Privacy Options page. Disabling Real ID will only disable the sharing of your real name. If you wish to also disable friends, you can disable the Friends feature.
Note: Real ID friends will be converted to BattleTag friends if you turn off Real ID. If you later turn on Real ID, you will again share your real name. If you disable Friends, your friends will no longer display in the Desktop or Mobile Apps. If you re-enable Friends, all your previous friends will reappear on your friends list
Limitations
- You may have up to 600 Battle.net friends. You will not receive additional Battle.net friend invitations if you reach this limit.
- If you prefer to keep your name hidden, consider adding your friend via BattleTag instead.
- There may be a delay after changing settings on the Privacy & Communication Settings. While some settings may enable instantaneously, others like receiving new friend invites can take a few hours,
In order to keep your account secure by verifying your identity when contacting Blizzard, our support teams will have access to the first and last name associated with the account, regardless of Real ID settings.
